The great ancient Mayan City of Xunantunich is located some 70 miles from Belize City. The ride is about two hours through the countryside of Central Belize and into the hills of Western Belize. You will pass through many villages and enter into the town of San Ignacio before arriving at Xunantunich. At Succotz Village you will disembark from the vehicle and go on a short ride across the Mopan River on a hand-cranked ferry. Then just a short drive uphill to Xunantunich. You will be amazed at the construction, architecture and the size of this once great city. Your guide will take you back in time to 200-900AD when this City rose to prominence and became a powerful city in the Mayan world. Then you climb to the top of the tallest Temple,” El Castillo” and get a view of the entire city and its surroundings. This is an awesome site to visit you won’t be disappointed.
After immersing yourself in Mayan history and culture it’s off to cave tubing. Cave Tubing is one of the most fun and relaxing tour in Belize and it’s a great way to cool off on a hot day. On arrival at the national park, you will be given time to change into comfortable clothing for your cave tubing tour. You will be equipped with a headlamp, helmet, Life jacket, and a rubber tube. Your guide will then take you on a 30-40 minute hike on a nature trail to the caves where you will float on your tubes through the amazing cave system, adorned with stalactites and stalagmites and other amazing rock formations.
