Located some 31 miles from Belize City, Altun Ha is a popular Mayan site for visitors. It’s easily accessible from Belize City, Water Taxi, Belize City Municipal airport or the international airport. Alun Ha is known for the discovery of the largest carved Jade head of the Mayan sun god (Kinich Ahau). Immerse yourself in ancient Mayan culture and learn about the Mayans that once lived there. This site has two main plazas, A and B, The tallest structure known as the Temple of the Masonry Alter is 60 feet tall and you will be able to climb to the top on constructed stair ways, and view the entire area which consist of some 500 structures some still uncovered.
Cave Tubing is one of the most fun and relaxing tour in Belize and should be in your bucket list of things to do while in Belize. You will be equipped with a head lamp, helmet, life jacket, and a rubber tube. Your guide will then take you on a 30-40 minute hike on a nature trail to what the Mayans considered as the Underworld known as “Xibalba” in Mayan language. You then arrive at Xibalba, you will then float through the amazing cave system adorned with stalactites and stalagmites and other amazing rock formations.
