Not too far from Belize City, in the lush jungles of Belize lies the ancient Mayan city of Altun Ha. It was made famous by the discovery of the largest sculptured Jade head of the Mayan Sun God (Knich Ahau). On arrival, the guide will give you a briefing of the site and a visit to the onsite Museum. Here you will see some of the artifacts discovered at Altun Ha. The guide will then take you into the once-thriving trading and ceremonial centre of Altun Ha. You will be able to climb the famous “Temple of the Masonry Arts” and be fascinated by the architecture and the engineering abilities of the Mayans. Close your eyes and listen keenly to imagine what it felt like a thousand years ago.
After visiting Altun Ha and marvelling at the abilities and rich history of the Mayans we then travel to the Community Baboon Sanctuary. Here you will learn of the balance struck between humans and animals and how they co-exist in the same environment. The Sanctuary was established to protect the Black Howler Monkeys and their Habitat with the cooperation of the villagers. After a briefing at the welcome centre, a local guide will take you on an adventure hike to spot the Howler Monkeys. You will then get a chance to take pictures of the Howler Monkeys and hear their loud howls.
This is a great educational and fun tour for the entire family.
