Altun Ha (Mayan for stone water) is located some 31 miles from Belize City. Altun Ha is a popular Mayan site for visitors. It is easily accessible from Belize City, Water Taxi, Belize City Municipal airport or the international airport. Altun Ha is known for the discovery of the largest carved Jade head of the Mayan sun god (Kinich Ahau). Immerse yourself in ancient Mayan culture and learn about the Mayans that once lived there. This site has two main plazas, A and B, and the tallest structure known as the Temple of the Masonry Alter which is 60 feet tall. Not to mention, you will be able to climb to the top on constructed stair ways, and enjoy a panoramic view of the entire site which consist of some 500 structures of which some are still uncovered.
